Kamila Valieva, a member of the Russian Olympic Committee, has landed in fourth place after a shocking turn of events, guaranteeing that the women’s figure skating individual event will have a medal ceremony.
Because of her Failures, Kamila Valieva is now in Fourth Place.
Kamila Valieva, a Russian figure skater, placed fourth in the women’s individual event despite having failed a drug test prior to the Olympics.
After Tuesday’s short programme, the 15-year-old was in first place, but a series of missteps on Thursday night knocked her from contention.
As a result of Valieva’s misstep, her Russian teammate Anna Shcherbakova finished in first place. Kaori Sakamoto of Japan came in third, and Alexandra Trusova of Russia took second. There will be medals for the three of them. The International Olympic Committee already stated that they would not host a medal ceremony should Valieva finish in the top three.
The Bronze Medal is at Stake for the United States Curling Team.
The men’s curling Olympic final will be contested between Great Britain and Sweden. In the semifinals at Beijing’s Ice Cube, Britain defeated the United States 8-4, while Sweden triumphed over Canada 5-3. The American foursome led by John Shuster, the defending champions, will face the Canadians in the bronze medal match.
At the five-end mark, the Americans were behind 5-4, so they blanked three ends on purpose to keep the hammer (last rock advantage). In the ninth end, Shuster conceded a point by throwing away his last stone on purpose, and in the tenth, Bruce Mouat’s quartet left Shuster with no decent alternatives with the hammer.
Third Place in the Women’s 1,000-Meter Speed Skating Event Goes to an American Athlete.
Japanese speed skater Miho Takagi set a new Olympic record to win her fourth medal at these Games, and her first ever as an individual. Dutch woman Jutta Leerdam won the silver. The United States’ Brittany Bowe won bronze, her first medal as an individual.
With his silvers in the 500, 1,500, and team pursuit in the Beijing Olympics, Takagi finished with a total of four medals. After squandering a gold in the pursuit when her older sister fell on the final bend with Japan in the lead, her victory was all the sweeter.
The United States Olympic Team Loses to Canada in the Gold Medal Match.
The United States women’s hockey team’s loss of Brianna Decker to injury in the first game of the tournament proved to be insurmountable as they attempted to win the gold medal game at the Beijing Olympics. Instead of gold, the Americans took home silver.
In a 3-2 setback to Canada, the Americans could have used Decker’s scoring touch, and more. Two weeks earlier, in the opening game of the preliminary round, Decker was tripped from behind and sustained a broken left leg and many torn tendons in her ankle.
The United States attempted to replicate Decker’s contributions but ultimately failed. Canada’s elite level of talent and depth was too much for the United States to handle.
Ski Halfpipe’s Top Qualifier Gu is Gunning For his Third Olympic Medal.
When qualifying for the women’s ski halfpipe event at the Beijing Olympics, Eileen Gu not once, but twice, scored the highest total.
The outstanding Chinese freestyle skier, born in the United States, has won gold in big air and silver in slopestyle. She’s going for history by trying to win three medals in action sports at the same Winter Olympics. After a disappointing first run, Gu improved on her final attempt to earn a 95.50.
The Canadian Rachael Karker finished in second place, followed by the Estonian Kelly Sildaru in third. Three Americans, led by Brita Sigourney, made it to the championship round.
