Women 400m Hurdles Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

TOKYO — So far, the 400-meter hurdles has been the most exciting track competition at the Tokyo Olympics.

Sydney McLaughlin, a runner from the United States, came from behind in the last stretch to set a new world record and win the Olympic gold medal. The men’s record had already been broken less than 24 hours before.

In the women’s competition, the current world record holder faced up against the reigning Olympic champion. Both of them are American athletes. McLaughlin, at age 21, established a new world record at the U.S. Olympic trials in June. Breaking 52 seconds was a first for female competitors. She ran a 51.46 on Wednesday.

McLaughlin recalled the overwhelming feelings he experienced after the race as a “flood” of feelings that he was unable to process.

Former world record holder and Olympian Dalilah Muhammad (age 31) took gold in this competition at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. In Tokyo, she ran her personal best time of 51.58 seconds and won silver.

McLaughlin claims that competition with Muhammad only helps to strengthen their mutual abilities. “It seems to me that’s just a case of like resharpening like. You should surround yourself with people who will challenge you to improve. That, I believe, is where we really shine.”

She denied that there was any rivalry between them: “Conflict has been resolved and goodwill reigns. To me, it’s about two athletes who are pushing each other to excel because they know they have a great girl on their team who will push them even further.”

Muhammad has claimed that her wealth of life experience has helped her appreciate the significance of the silver medal. “I may feel conflicted about coming home with silver after setting a new world record, but right now I couldn’t be prouder of my performance. Respectfully, I take great pleasure in it “As Prophet Muhammad said it.

Runner Femke Bol of the Netherlands took bronze.

A new personal best in the 400-meter hurdles has been set during these Games.

As the men’s final event, it featured a showdown between two of the race’s all-time fastest male competitors.

Karsten Warholm of Norway bested his previous world record time by around 0.75 seconds. Furthermore, American Rai Benjamin followed closely behind him with a time that was also faster than the previous world record.

As McLaughlin put it, “seeing the men’s race generated a little bit of enthusiasm and adrenaline, for sure.”

“It’s awesome to be a part of the next wave of athletes expanding the limits of competition.”
