Wall Street Journal reporter Rachel Bachman reports that Jamaican superstars Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Shericka Jackson will be competing against the American sprinter in the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

To many, Richardson was the clear favourite to win the women’s 100-meter dash at the Tokyo Olympics. For the first time, she was able to participate in the Olympics when she won the U.S. Olympic Team Trial and clocked in at 10.86 seconds.

Richardson 30-Day Punishment

Richardson agreed to a 30-day punishment on July 2 after an in-competition drug test taken during the trials tested positive for marijuana, according to the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

A 30-day suspension meant that Richardson couldn’t compete in the women’s 100-meter dash on July 31. On August 5-6, she might have competed in the women’s 4×100 event, but she wasn’t chosen to be on the U.S. squad. This uprising has left Shacarri Richardson feeling down. After 30 days, Shacarri Richardson was unable to play in any games.

Last Words

According to the BBC, at the time of the Olympic Trials, Richardson’s time of 10.64 seconds in the 100-meter dash was tied for third-fastest in history by a female sprinter, behind only Florence Griffith-Joyner (10.49 seconds) and Fraser-Pryce (10.63 seconds).

In the women’s 100-meter dash at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Thompson-Herah, Fraser-Pryce, and Jackson all placed in the top three. With a time of 10.61 seconds, Thompson-Herah established a new Olympic record.
