Sweden had a successful tenth day of competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Monday, August 2nd, but France, Poland, and Romania all had disappointing days.

Sweden, the fifth seed, beat the United States, the fourteenth seed, 3-1 to go to the semi-finals.
After a promising start in which Anton Källberg and Kristian Karlsson defeated Nikhil Kumar and Zhou Xin (11-6, 11-5, 11-5), Sweden suffered a disappointing loss. Kanak Jha defeated Mattias Falck (9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 14-12).
Anton Källberg won in straight games against Zhou Xin (11-7, 11-8, 11-8), and then Kristian Karlsson prevailed against Kanak Jha (11-7, 11-8, 11-8). (12-10, 11-5, 11-6).
Sadly, France’s men’s and women’s team competitions came to an end, but they had reason to be proud of the efforts of individuals like Simon Gauzy and Prithika Pavade.

China got off to a great start, thanks to Ma Long and Xu Xin, who triumphed over Alexandre Cassin and Emmanuel Lebesson (11-6, 11-5, 11-7). Xu Xin ultimately prevailed against France’s Emmanuel Lebesson (11-8, 11-5, 11-6).
The 13th-seeded French fell 3-0 against the 6th-seeded Singaporeans despite stellar play from Simon Gauzy and Prithika Pavade on her 17th birthday.
After taking the first two games against Feng Tianwei, the adolescent eventually lost because of the Singaporean’s superior experience (8-11, 6-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-3). However, Stéphanie Loeuillette and Yuan Jia Nan lost 2-0 to Lin Ye and Yu Mengyu in the doubles round, Stéphanie’s maiden Olympic match (11-6, 11-5, 13-11).

In the end, Yu Mengyu prevailed over Yuan Ji Nan (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 11-8).
Poland’s eleventh-seeded women’s team put up a valiant effort in their opening match against Korea Republic’s seventh-seeded squad. The score of 3-0 doesn’t accurately reflect how tight the game actually was.
Choi Hyojoo and Shin Yubin defeated Natalia Bajor and Natalia Partyka in the first doubles match by the slimmest of margins (11-6, 12-10, 11-13, 4-11, 13-11).
Shin Yubin also had to hold off a determined comeback by Natalia Bajor in the match that closed off the event. It took five games, but Shin Yubin prevailed (11-4, 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 11-5).
