With her fellow countrywoman and main competition, Isabell, about to enter the Tokyo stadium for the individual final, Jessica immediately set a sky-high objective of 91.73%.
When Jessica saw Isabell’s score of 89.6% flash up on the screen and realised she was still holding the top slot with just two riders remaining to go, she recalled the “emotional” feeling she had upon realising she had a chance to be the individual Olympic champion.
She went on to say that she was taken aback by the intensity of her feelings but that it proved how badly she wanted the outcome.
Every time I felt like giving up, I reminded myself, “You can’t do more than giving your best,” but that feeling when you realise you actually might be able to accomplish something you’ve been working for is indescribable. There was a lot of tension building up inside of me, and then suddenly it all released. Simply fantastic.
Last Words
Jessica conceded that she was under a lot of pressure in the days leading up to the Olympics, though she believed that this stress was caused more by her own high expectations of herself than by anyone else. Thanks for reading our article J. Von Bredow-Werndl Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
