Ebrahim Raisi, the incoming president of Iran, called to offer his congratulations to Foroughi. Foroughi, a nurse with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, is 41 years old (IRGC). According to reports, he has been serving as part of the IRGC’s medical deployment in Syria.
The IRGC’s Basij paramilitary forces leader, Brigadier General Gholamreza Soleimani, has also spoken highly of Foroughi. He went on to praise the Basij, noting that their “loyal, ardent, hard-working youth” were responsible for Iran’s victory and inspiring “pride, honour, and dignity” in all Iranians.
